Self Preservation

Why are we so concerned with self preservation? I am not talking about life in general, but more within the context of working culture. I am sure those of you who work in the corporate world (however you like to define corporate) have come across individuals who are so self absorbed about achieving the highest rating or the next promotion that they forget to be a decent human being!

The fact that sometimes we have our head so far up our own ass (as my dear Ketchupmissy says) that we can't see the light anymore. Don't get me wrong I am one of the most money, and status (a little) -driven person you can meet...I am one those who if you ask love or money would actually have to pause for a loooong time to consider, and chances are money will have the upper hand. If not immediate money, but at least the potential of making money and fortune later on. So, I know the importance of climbing the ladder, and pushing ahead...but seriously, at the expense of others or the relationships you have? Seriously?

I guess I have always been reminded, and now reminding myself, that our time in this world is temporary and we won't be bringing money, title, etc. to our graves. But my philosophy is that during our time in this world...those things matter, and are important and helpful. But you don't have to be a queen bitch (bastard) along the way, to be able achieve those things...you know what I mean?! Think about all the knowledge and relationship you would have lost if you continue on this self destructive (the way I see it) path...as my friend would say...is this strategy sustainable? If it is, I am guessing it is very lonely at the top...and you will constantly looking behind your back...

some people say "money is the root of all evil"... but hell, those must be poor people talking. takde duit nak makan ape, nak mengorat awek macam mana??? bil tepon mahal oiii...

but i agree with the fact that we should never 'push and shove' others to get ahead, to acquire this so-called 'temporary' wealth... at work, with politics, life in general. rezeki ada dimana2, as long as youre honest, God will make sure you get to the pot of gold. besar, kecik... belakang kira :)

YES, I agree seratus-peratus!

You know i miss having these wonderful and thought provoking conversations with you..where we are actually exercising our brains, and we realise that we are actually quite smart! Even tho they may not happen as often as our mengumpat-ing sessions :-D

So I guess now we can continue having these conversations (may be not so much of the mengumpat-ing)...isn't technology wonderful?!

I can't wait to see you when you are back in town!

Having said almost all about money, let's not forget that money is important for one to do charity to improve lives. Of course charity can be applied in many forms, not necessarily in the form of RM, Pound Sterling, USD, etc. But it is better to be "tangan yang memberi dari tangan yang menerima". Take for e.g., Bill and Melinda Gates, being the richest people in the world, they are able to sponsor vaccines to the Third World countries. And Allahyarham King Fahd, and his predecessors, being the custodians of the two Holy Mosques in the Haraams, during their lifetime, they made so much improvement and expansion to these mosques, and also the other mosques which Rasulullah SAW once prayed at. I must mention here also that the expansion of the mosques were absolutely essential because people there really do pray in congregation for the fardhu prayers and even at other times, the mosques are always packed and busy with the locals and visitors.

My position on this, while money does seem to play a major role in my life and everyone's too, it can't buy love and peace in the heart. And Alhamdulillah for that :D The peace and even love, are only found through the investment for the Hereafter. And indeed, it does not make sense to be at the top at the expense of a relationship, friendship, marriage, whatever...But these things do happen. I truly feel so sorry for such display of, should I say, ignorance? Wallahualam.

NEways, it's nice that you have this platform Nina. Ketchupmissy...It has to be Arnie! Assalamualaikum Arnie. I pray all is well with you. Amai told me you are in Bermuda. Sounds absolutely fantastic!

Take care all.

Wassalam

Zackieeee....

So nice to have on on-board here! I alwiz think of you when I write coz I sooo think you would be a great blogger!

I must say you one of the few person who keeps me real and grounded and reminded of the hereafter!!

I know you are the other person besides Arnie that I can have these type of conversations with, and know I am not being judged by what I say!

When I was in Makkah and I was praying for murah rezeki...one of my thots was that I can go back to Makkah whenever I want to, and to beribadah in both Masjidil Haram and Nabawi...you are the sense of peacefulness you get there can't be compared to any other places.

I know we can beribadah anywhere we want given our niat is there, but to get the opportunity to beribadah in the holy land...words can't describe it!

I can't wait to hear more of your comments...and hopefully your own blog :-D
